Jillian’s current focus: self-portraits in oil on reclaimed plastic bags. They are designed to be non-archival: as the paintings age, crack, scratch, and wear, so do we. How the pieces evolve and disintegrate will be determined by their frequency, mode, and level of engagement. Each painting takes months to create, allowing details emerge on their own time. A portrait is ready to move from the studio wall into the world when Jillian has discovered and integrated something new about herself, seeing her reflection more clearly than before.
